Monte Mar

Project year: 2021 | Location: Sausalito, California

About The Project

An existing home with unparalleled views to San Francisco Bay will be modernized and expanded. The ground floor is being dug into the hillside and expanded under the existing upper level, more than doubling its square footage. Each of the three bedrooms has direct access to outdoor space, while the living and ding rooms open to a huge deck with glass rails, with the attempt of not blocking any view lines.

The original exterior stair was in bad shape and shortly after purchasing the project, one of my clients was walking down the stair when the whole thing collapsed, causing him to break his wrist in the fall. This prompted a complete redesign of the stair, which now splays wider as one descends, embracing the large patio and views.
