Meadow
A major transformation of a front of house - one of many identical homes in the immediate neighborhood.
About The Project
Set in the Mill Valley flats, this home belongs to a neighborhood of modest, three-bedroom houses built in the 1950s. Originally uniform in character, many have evolved through additions and renovations that accommodate changing needs while retaining the neighborhood’s intimate scale.
A 400-square-foot addition extends the house toward the street, introducing a lounge, office, bathroom and entry hall. These new spaces expand the home’s functionality and establish a more welcoming arrival. A simple shed roof spans the street-facing elevation, bringing the addition and existing structure together in a unified composition.
A restrained palette of white stucco and white brick balances smooth and textured surfaces, while stained wood at the entry and garage doors adds warmth. The result is a refreshed, contemporary home whose modest scale and straightforward forms remain closely connected to its neighborhood.
