Monte Mar

Project year: 2021 | Location: Sausalito, California

A super-clean transformation of a home with unparalleled views.

About The Project

An existing home with unparalleled views to San Francsico Bay was modernized and expanded. The upper floor was reconfigured, allowing the kitchen to be opened up to the living an dining rooms as well as to the spectacular view. The ground floor was dug into the hillside and expanded under the existing upper level, more than doubling its square footage. Each of the three bedrooms has direct access to outdoor space, while the living and dining rooms open to a huge deck with glass rails, with the attempt of not blocking any view lines.

The original exterior stair was in bad shape and shortly after purchasing the project, one of my clients was walking down the stair when the whole thing collapsed, causing him to break his wrist in the fall. This prompted a complete redesign of the stair, which now splays wider as one descends, embracing the large patio and views.
